Overview In this Patent Counsel role, you partner with our R&D teams to identify inventions and assess patentability, drafting and prosecuting patent applications for novel chemical sciences. You will support programs from discovery through development and commercialization, collaborating with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, regulatory, business development, and commercial groups. You will contribute to IP strategy, freedom-to-operate analyses, and due diligence for collaborations and acquisitions. Responsibilities- Devise patenting strategy with development teams to build robust IP portfolios for biopharmaceutical products
- Draft and prosecute patent applications globally for products, candidates, and platform technologies
- Support oppositions and other proceedings with internal litigation colleagues
- Collaborate with in-house US and European patent attorneys, paralegals, and support staff
- Conduct freedom to operate analyses for R&D activities
- Support business development activities through IP due diligence and negotiations of related agreements
Key requirements- Bachelor in Biological, Pharmaceutical or Chemical Sciences
- Graduate of an accredited US law school
- Registered to practice before the USPTO
- Bar admission in at least one state or DC
- 5+ years as an attorney drafting and prosecuting pharmaceutical/biological patent applications
- Strong technical background in chemical or biological sciences
