Overview As Principal for HDR's Education and Science practice in the Colorado-Wyoming region, you drive vision, client development, and project leadership for large-scale science and education facilities. You will mentor teams, shape pursuit strategy, and sustain HDR's reputation in a diverse client base. You help deliver high-quality, performance-driven projects while advancing an inclusive, employee-owned culture. This role offers impact across academia, government, and industry through transformative design.
Responsibilities- Provide sector leadership and vision for the region
- Develop capture plans and nurture key client relationships
- Maintain active sector presence and align effort with annual fee goals
- Prepare qualifications and proposals; lead go/no-go decisions
- Direct interview strategies and contract negotiations
- Serve as Principal-in-Charge when appropriate
- Oversee project execution for quality, schedule, and financial performance
- Mentor staff and support career development
- Collaborate with Design/Operations leadership to strengthen culture and team
- Develop abstracts/presentations for industry events to promote outcomes and lessons learned
- Engage in pre-positioning activities and ongoing business development across biotech, pharma, and education sectors
- Manage diverse project types including life sciences, general academics, and libraries
- Leverage regional and occasional national opportunities through relationships
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Architecture
- 15 years related experience
- Minimum 7 years project management experience
- Registered Architect
- Experience leading teams and presenting to clients
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
- Extensive knowledge of local and regional market
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and people skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Willingness to travel
