Overview

In this role you will apply high resolution mass spectrometry to elucidate chemical structures of small pharmaceutical molecules, working with a cross-functional team to deliver timely, high-quality deliverables. You will influence strategies for structure elucidation and contribute to innovative MS approaches in drug development. This position offers the chance to publish and present work, supporting Pfizer's portfolio and impact on patients worldwide. You will leverage digital tools to optimize workflows and collaborate across disciplines to solve complex problems.

Responsibilities
  • Elucidate chemical structures and solve scientific questions for small molecules of pharmaceutical interest using high resolution mass spectrometry tools
  • Collaborate with mass spectrometrists, NMR spectroscopists, purification scientists, analytical and organic chemists
  • Provide strong technical and strategic input to ensure efficient and timely delivery of results
  • Investigate innovative scientific approaches to MS support for pharmaceutical development
  • Utilize digital tools to enhance workflows
  • Write technical documents
  • Publish and present externally
Key requirements
  • B.S./M.S. in chemistry with 9-11 years of MS experience in structural elucidation, or MBA/MS with 7-8 years in chemistry/MS with MS focus, or Ph.D. in chemistry or equivalent with MS focus
  • Strong understanding of mass spectrometry theory and applications
  • Experience with structure elucidation of small molecules and/or peptides
  • Fundamental understanding of organic chemistry
  • Familiarity with MS data analysis software for small molecules and peptides (Thermo Freestyle, ACD/Labs, BioPharma Finder, Protein Metrics)
  • Ability to work independently in problem-solving and research
  • Experience using HRMS systems, particularly Thermo Orbitrap instruments
