Managing Geologist (MS/PhD)

Overview

In this role you will join Exponent's Civil & Structural Engineering Practice to deliver engineering geology, remote sensing, GIS, and geophysics services on geotechnical failure investigations and natural hazard evaluations. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, engage with clients on strategy and deliverables, and lead project execution and knowledge sharing. Responsibilities
  • Conduct field inspections and subsurface explorations to determine causes of geotechnical failures
  • Evaluate site conditions for root-cause analyses and conceptual mitigation design
  • Create geospatial models including GIS and subsurface models
  • Develop topographic and thematic maps
  • Engage with clients on project strategy and deliverables, presenting findings
  • Perform peer review of geologic and geotechnical documents
  • Evaluate construction claims
  • Lead project teams for field investigations, analyses, and reporting
  • Develop projects with new and existing clients
Key requirements
  • Ph.D. in geological sciences specializing in Engineering Geology + 5 years post-graduate experience
  • Licensure as a professional Geologist (PG) or Geophysicist (PGP) in at least one state
  • Certification as Engineering Geologist (CEG) or Hydrogeologist (CHG) in at least one state, or ability to obtain within 2 years
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proven ability to develop and manage client relationships independently
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality in fast-paced environments
