Overview You will serve as an embedded legal partner helping Publix navigate evolving regulations and minimize risk. Working across retail, transportation, and support functions, you translate complex requirements into actionable guidance for leaders and teams. You will strengthen practical compliance programs and support operations in a large, employee-owned company. Responsibilities- Serve as trusted legal advisor to associates and leaders across multiple business areas
- Partner with teams to develop practical regulatory compliance programs
- Serve as SME for cross-functional projects on complex or emerging regulatory issues
- Guide on food safety, environmental, hazardous materials, transportation, and consumer practices
- Develop and support regulatory training on HIPAA, records management, marketing, manufacturing, and food safety
- Manage regulatory inquiries, demand letters, and disputes with internal and external stakeholders
- Monitor regulatory developments and implement practical changes to ensure compliance
- Advise internal compliance teams on applicable laws and requirements
- Collaborate with Retail, Industrial Food Safety, Environmental, Hazardous Waste, Transportation teams on risk management
Key requirements- Juris Doctor degree
- Active admission to a state bar in the United States and in good standing
- Minimum seven years of regulatory and compliance experience
- Experience with laws in at least two relevant areas (e.g., food safety, environmental/hazardous materials, transportation, employee benefits, securities, consumer practices, or antitrust)
- Knowledge of laws affecting supermarket, retail, or similarly complex operations
- Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance
- Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, planning, and organizational skills
- Collaborative, client-focused advising style with ability to manage risk
- Project management ability and capacity to work independently
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Westlaw
