Overview As a member of the Global Litigation team, you will support the Workers' Compensation Claims groups across litigation, coverage, and compliance. You will oversee national workers' compensation disputes, manage outside counsel, and guide strategy for trials and appeals. You'll work with regulatory and government affairs teams to handle inquiries and provide coverage analysis for complex claims. This role blends cross-border and domestic considerations, offering the chance to shape litigation practice and regulatory responses within a leading insurer.
Responsibilities- Oversee civil actions in workers' compensation disputes across the country and manage related discovery and deposition processes
- Provide strategic direction for appeals to state intermediate and appellate courts
- Collaborate with compliance to respond to regulator inquiries and manage insurance department and BBB complaints
- Offer coverage advice on complex workers' compensation matters, including policy interpretation and position letters
- Act as liaison to State Government Affairs and coordinate analyses on proposed legislation and regulatory impact
- Support Employers' Liability and Foreign Voluntary coverages for consistent technical guidance across international and domestic matters
- Provide practical and strategic coverage and regulatory guidance to underwriting and claims teams
- Deliver training to internal partners on compliance and litigation topics
- Build key internal relationships to deliver holistic solutions across QA, regulatory compliance, coverage positions, and SGA
Key requirements- 8+ years of workers' compensation and/or coverage litigation experience with a law firm or insurer
- Experience litigating insurance-related and extra-contractual disputes
- Juris Doctor license to practice law in the U.S.
- Strong technical background in workers' compensation
- Project/change management experience coordinating cross-discipline teams
- Proven analytical, organizational, and communication skills for business partnerships
- Experience with influence management and collaborative teamwork
- Ability to travel within the US periodically to engage with leadership and state regulators
