Overview

As VP, Field Underwriting you will lead enterprise-wide field underwriting and drive profitable growth for a technology-focused insurer. You'll shape underwriting discipline, partner with actuarial and risk teams, and strengthen producer relationships across the domestic footprint. The role combines strategic governance, sales leadership, and talent development to scale BTU's tech-centric risk approach. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure consistent processes and high-quality underwriting. This is an opportunity to influence underwriting strategy at scale and mentor high-performing teams.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee enterprise-wide field underwriting operations to ensure consistent strategy, execution, and quality across regions.
  • Drive profitability through portfolio mix, pricing adequacy, and risk selection for the field organization.
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, appetite, authority levels, and regulatory requirements across field offices.
  • Partner with actuarial, claims, and risk control to align underwriting decisions with BTU's tech-centric risk approach.
  • Lead national sales and distribution strategies and strengthen broker relationships.
  • Oversee field marketing, product education, and agency training delivery across the enterprise.
  • Develop and implement consistent underwriting processes, workflows, and QA standards; conduct audits and drive continuous improvements.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop field underwriting staff; promote innovation and collaborative problem-solving.
Key requirements
  • Minimum 10+ years of multi-line underwriting and marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading underwriting teams at regional, national, or enterprise level.
  • Deep knowledge of property, casualty, professional liability, and cyber coverages for technology-focused businesses.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent leadership and communication abilities with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  • Working knowledge of underwriting systems and digital workflows.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently.
