Overview Senior leader in Stantec's Building Specialty Services, guiding a team focused on building envelope design and related services. You drive technical leadership and business development for the US Northeast service line, overseeing complex projects from scope definition to delivery. You lead cross-functional collaboration with architects, contractors, and consultants, ensure design and field performance, and mentor staff while advancing the company's sustainable, client-centric approach. This role offers opportunities to shape envelope performance across new and rehabilitation projects.
Responsibilities- Define project scope and design criteria for complex envelope services
- Review design documents, shop drawings, and submittals for water intrusion, air leakage, vapor diffusion, thermal performance, and differential movement
- Manage preparation of contract drawings and specifications with project team
- Perform field reviews and site visits for new and rehabilitation projects to ensure compliance with mock-ups and designs
- Create and review site visit reports; generate and track action lists to resolve deficiencies
- Undertake field testing of building envelope elements and prepare test reports
- Solve project problems with innovative approaches; interface with architects, general contractors, and sub-trades
- Provide expert guidance on design processes and construction methods; conduct forensic analyses of envelope failures
- Lead and mentor project teams (1-5 staff); manage projects for time and budget
- Lead business development; write proposals; present technical content to internal and external audiences
- Mentor entry-level staff; build thought leadership through presentations and industry involvement
- Travel regionally; work on active construction sites; maintain client relationships
- Develop and deliver building science research and technical papers
Key requirements- 10+ years of experience in assessing, detailing, testing and/or constructing building envelope systems
- Strong knowledge of flashing, waterproofing, roofing, cladding, rain screens, air barriers, and related systems
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Science with Building Science background
- Registered Professional
- Proven project management experience with multi-project portfolios over $200,000
- Ability to work on active construction sites and travel regionally
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of Bluebeam, CAD and/or Revit
