Overview As a Manager of Claims Examiners, you lead a team handling a broad range of general liability claims, guiding coverage decisions, reserves, and settlements. You will align team work with Markel's objectives and collaborate with Underwriting, Actuarial, and management to drive performance and compliant outcomes. This role offers opportunities to mentor staff, optimize processes, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in a global insurance environment. You'll engage in special projects, travel as needed, and help shape claims strategy.

Responsibilities- Lead and supervise a team of Claims Examiners
- Confirm coverage by reviewing policies and documents
- Direct assignment of new loss activity for claims
- Review and approve correspondence and reports, including coverage letters and Large Loss Reports
- Approve reserves and settlements beyond handling examiner authority; advise senior management
- Participate in loss activity reviews with stakeholders (Underwriting, Actuarial, Exec)
- Ensure adherence to Fair Claims Practices and internal performance objectives
- Evaluate examiner and team performance; identify training needs
- Prepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing data
- Assist in budgeting and resource planning
- Foster strong internal relationships with Underwriting and Actuarial
- Engage in special projects; travel to other offices, mediations, trials, conferences as required
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years of claims handling and claims management experience
- Claims adjuster license or eligibility to obtain one
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
