Overview In this role you will identify, solicit, underwrite, and sell Middle Market accounts within the Virginia territory to drive profitable growth. You'll apply advanced underwriting and sales acumen to deliver insurance solutions aligned with Hanover's appetites. You will manage an assigned, complex book of business within authority limits, collaborating with agents and internal teams. This position combines technical risk assessment with strategic portfolio management to support growth and risk management objectives.
Responsibilities- Underwrite and sell Middle Market accounts, including renewals, aligned with territory strategy
- Manage portfolio for profitability, retention, and mix goals; monitor market trends and adjust plans
- Perform advanced risk analysis, pricing, and coverage determination using internal tools
- Prepare and explain account decisions and file documentation per guidelines and regulations
- Develop and maintain agency relationships; present to agents and customers to foster growth
- Lead territory business plans, drive a robust sales pipeline, and coordinate with cross-functional partners
- Utilize Industry Solutions and service teams to support complex accounts and win opportunities
- Monitor regulatory and market changes impacting pricing and underwriting decisions
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 3-7+ years underwriting experience with at least 3 years in MM underwriting
- 3+ years driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business
- May specialize/certify in one or more Industry Segments
