Job description

Overview

As an Equipment Breakdown Underwriter at Liberty Mutual, you will grow and manage a profitable, diversified book by underwriting monoline and reinsurance business. You'll build strong agent and broker relationships and lead with market-facing insight to reach aggressive growth targets. You mentor less experienced underwriters and contribute to continuous improvement through rigorous risk assessment and decision-making. This role combines technical underwriting with leadership to shape a scalable, high-quality portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Risk selection: review, rate, and underwrite applications; determine terms and premiums; obtain approvals and negotiate deals
  • Agent/broker relationships: respond quickly, maintain relationships, visit sites, conduct renewal meetings, grow a high-quality pipeline
  • Portfolio management: analyze the book, identify growth, profitability and diversification opportunities; execute marketing plans and broker calls
  • Documenting the deal: maintain clear, well-supported account reviews and referrals; adhere to regulations and underwriting guidelines
  • Leadership: mentor and coach underwriters and account analysts
  • Continuous improvement: participate in problem-solving and apply improvement tools to team work
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree; 4-7 years of relevant experience preferred
  • CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred
  • Intermediate knowledge of insurance products, underwriting, pricing, risk selection, market segments, and functions; familiarity with insurance finance, actuarial concepts, loss control, marketing, regulatory environment and reinsurance; advanced knowledge of territory management
