Overview

As Regional Underwriting Officer, Southwest, you will drive profitable growth and underwriting excellence across a multi-state region, while providing national leadership for Commercial Auto and Umbrella lines. You'll partner with regional leaders to execute financial plans, identify market opportunities, and strengthen customer partnerships through disciplined risk selection and loss prevention. You'll influence region-wide strategy, governance, and product collaboration to align with CopperPoint's mission of healthier, safer communities. This high-impact role sits on the enterprise Senior Leadership Team and shapes regional market success and national underwriting standards.

Responsibilities
  • Develop regional underwriting strategies and financial plans in collaboration with regional leaders
  • Co-own regional underwriting results including loss ratios, premium growth, and segment mix
  • Conduct QA reviews of regional decisions and produce action-oriented findings
  • Partner with regional product managers to identify opportunities and mentor teams
  • Build and maintain broker/agent relationships across the region
  • Support risk management through Risk Management Services and Loss Control in underwriting decisions
  • Ensure regulatory and ethical compliance across multi-state region
  • Collaborate with enterprise teams on pricing models, filings, and tools to align regional and corporate strategies
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of progressive commercial lines underwriting experience
  • At least 5 years in portfolio, line, industry vertical, or field leadership
  • Strong technical expertise in workers' compensation, GL, property & inland marine, commercial auto, or umbrella
  • Proven success in achieving profitability and growth targets in multi-state or regional settings
  • Ability to influence through collaboration in a matrix organization
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and mentoring skills
  • Willingness to travel extensively and obtain multi-state licenses
