Overview In this role you partner with department and system leaders to advance clinical, academic, and research missions within the One Mount Sinai framework. You steer enterprise-wide administrative, financial, and operational affairs for the Department of Psychiatry, balancing department priorities with system-wide objectives. You'll lead change, optimize resources, and ensure compliance across divisions and sites while aligning with Mount Sinai's strategy. This position offers a chance to influence cross-site operations, faculty affairs, and program development at scale.
Responsibilities- Serve as a strategic partner to advance clinical, academic, research, and operational priorities within the One Mount Sinai strategy.
- Maintain dual accountability to departmental and enterprise leadership, aligning resources and decisions with both sets of goals.
- Translate enterprise policies into department-level implementation plans and coordinate across divisions and sites.
- Identify growth and performance opportunities; collaborate to lead initiatives that improve clinical, academic, research, and financial performance.
- Collaborate with Institute Vice Presidents to advance integrated and clinical institute strategies.
- Provide guidance on external business ventures and affiliations, coordinating with legal and compliance to protect interests.
- Oversee external relationships and manage conflicts of interest appropriately.
- Represent the Department on institutional and system committees and act as liaison to School, Hospital, and System leadership.
- Serve as the departmental contact for enterprise-wide administrative initiatives, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, staff compensation, and bonus programs.
- Implement and monitor risk mitigation across operational, financial, regulatory, and reputational dimensions.
- Oversee faculty affairs including recruitment, appointments, promotion, and tenure processes, compensation, and HR matters.
- Support faculty recruitment and program start-up planning with business cases, budgets, and space planning.
- Monitor faculty performance against standards and implement improvement plans as needed.
- Develop a collaborative, high-performing administration team and lead change management across initiatives.
- Oversee budget development, forecasting, and financial reporting; ensure sustainable alignment with performance expectations.
- Coordinate with Revenue Cycle, FP&A, and other offices to support enterprise shared services and timely revenue processes.
- Drive data analytics to inform decision-making and monitor KPIs across departments and sites.
- Provide education program administration oversight, ensuring compliance with ACGME, LCME, and accreditation requirements.
- Coordinate trainee onboarding, compensation, benefits, visas, and timekeeping with ISMMS and central offices.
Key requirements- Advanced degree required, with preference for business, health administration, public health, or related fields
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in an academic health system with direct managerial responsibility
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a matrixed organization and collaborate with diverse leaders
- Strong knowledge of financial stewardship, KPIs, and cross-subsidization considerations within academic health systems
