Overview In this role, you will lead and contribute to Sompo's Middle Market Underwriting efforts for Property & Casualty lines, guiding best practices and broker engagement. You'll act as a technical resource, drive sound decision-making, and ensure guideline adherence across a regional territory. You'll manage day-to-day team coaching, foster strong broker relationships, and actively market the territory. Responsibilities- Provide technical underwriting leadership for Middle Market P&C (Property, GL, WC, Auto, Umbrella)
- Serve as a subject-matter expert and role model for underwriting practices and broker engagement
- Apply disciplined underwriting tools and guidelines to ensure compliant decisions
- Conduct thorough account reviews and maintain strong documentation
- Analyze decisions, rate appeals, requirements, status, and declinations to improve territory results
- Build and maintain primary broker relationships and act as the main underwriting contact
- Lead and coach a team to achieve underwriting excellence and professional growth
- Represent the territory through broker/client meetings, events, and travel
Key requirements- Minimum 5 years of Middle Market underwriting authority/insurance experience
- Proven success underwriting, quoting, and binding profitable business
- Experience across all account sizes and with brokers, agents, and specialty retailers
- Established regional and national broker relationships
- Prior leadership, mentorship, or coaching experience preferred
