Overview In this role you lead Goodwin's global research services, ensuring timely, accurate insights to support lawyers and business professionals. You'll supervise a team of Research Analysts, define service standards, and align tools with practice needs. You will partner with Knowledge Management, Practice Management, and IT to drive adoption of research tools and training. You help shape research strategy, monitor trends, and provide actionable deliverables and metrics to inform resourcing and strategy. Responsibilities- Oversee daily research services delivery across legal, business, and regulatory research areas to support attorneys and professionals
- Manage Research Analysts with workload coordination, prioritization, coaching, and quality reviews
- Establish intake workflows, service standards, and escalation protocols to ensure consistent quality and responsiveness
- Consult with attorneys to clarify objectives and produce concise deliverables (memos, alerts, briefs, presentations)
- Collaborate with Knowledge Management, Practice Management, Business Development/Marketing, and IT to align tools with needs
- Coordinate with Contracts and Licensing leadership on subscriptions, trials, licensing, renewals, and cost optimization
- Develop and maintain research guides, templates, and internal docs; promote self-service while preserving white-glove support for complex requests
- Monitor legal and competitive intelligence trends and recommend new tools and data sources
- Create and report metrics on volume, turnaround, satisfaction, complexity, and cost to inform resourcing and strategy
- Support incident response and continuity planning for research services including coverage models and outages
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree required; MLIS/MLS or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred
- 7+ years of progressively responsible legal research experience in large law firm, corporate legal department, or professional services
- 2+ years of people management experience or demonstrated team leadership capability
- Proficiency with legal/business research platforms (Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, PACER, SEC/EDGAR, D&B/Capital IQ, Factiva/News) and quick to learn new tools
- Strong written and verbal communication to translate complex findings into clear guidance
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, sound judgment on source reliability
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment; high discretion with confidential information
