Overview As a Senior Mining Engineer, you will lead mine planning and optimization for Graymont's Western North America region. You will collaborate with quarry operations, geology, and permitting teams to deliver optimized plans, manage reclamation activities, and improve efficiency and cost. You'll oversee cross-site projects, including automation initiatives, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. This role offers the chance to shape mining strategies across multiple quarries and contribute to Graymont's decarbonization goals.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain mine plans for the Western Region
- Create and update pit designs using internal standards
- Submit and manage mine permit applications
- Generate and review site reclamation plans
- Perform reconciliation to verify reserves and quarry progression
- Develop efficiency assessments to identify cost savings and efficiency gains
- Provide management for blast optimization and fines reduction studies
- Support quarry automation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Conduct reclamation surety evaluations and coordinate surety posting
- Identify and manage consultants for mine planning, reclamation and permitting
- Provide reclamation cost estimates for decommissioning provisions
- Maintain mine/reclamation plans and permit data in the Mineral Resource Development database
- Verify and submit reserve volumes annually
- Provide technical training for quarry supervision in planning, survey control, and reclamation techniques
- Review safety, production, and reclamation performance annually
- Identify and manage external consultants as needed for mine planning, reclamation and permitting
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field
- Minimum 10 years in mine planning and open-pit quarry operations
- Proven ability to lead technical evaluations and support optimization and automation
- Strong understanding of mining equipment, geology, and safety procedures (beneficial)
- Commitment to health and safety in mining environments
- Experience with mine planning software (preferably Surpac) and computer-based planning principles
- Travel up to 40% of the time across North America
