Job description

Overview

In this Estimator role, you will prepare quantitative takeoffs and price construction scopes for San Diego projects, driving competitive bids. You will collaborate with vendors and the project team to establish margins, manage subcontractor pricing, and support bid reviews. You'll ensure accurate cost analysis, schedule interpretation, and proper handoff of secured work to Operations. The role combines technical estimating with client relations and contract administration, offering a path to impact project outcomes and company profitability.

Responsibilities
  • Perform quantitative takeoffs on construction projects
  • Establish labor productivities for estimate
  • Maintain vendor relationships for pricing
  • Solicit subcontractor pricing for non-self-performing work
  • Understand market conditions to set margin percentages
  • Participate in internal bid reviews with supervisors and project teams
  • Support customer alignment through positive relations
  • Manage contract administration for secured projects
  • Utilize wage and benefit schedules
  • Handoff secured projects to Operations
  • Assist in change orders and billings as needed
  • Support Estimating team with product line collaboration
Key requirements
  • At least 2 years' experience estimating construction projects
  • Experience with estimating or managing specialty scopes
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings
  • Strong customer relationship experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Attention to detail and cost analysis skills
  • Ability to read project schedules for sequencing
  • Proficiency with takeoff/estimating software (On-Screen Takeoff, Quick Bid)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, Procore, or PlanSwift
  • Solid understanding of estimating techniques and bidding process
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
