Overview

As a Deputy District Attorney 2, you prosecute state and municipal offenses in Multnomah County and support open, fair justice. You will work within a team that emphasizes professionalism, diversity, and community impact, handling felony and misdemeanor cases and contributing to innovative programs. You'll review evidence, advise law enforcement, and prepare for trials, shaping legal strategy and outcomes. Responsibilities
  • Review police reports and evidence to decide charging decisions in felony offenses
  • Advise law enforcement and community members on legal questions and procedures
  • Prepare felony cases for trial, develop trial strategy, prep witnesses, draft motions and memoranda
  • Negotiate resolutions with defense counsel and litigate pre-trial motions
  • Appear in court for arraignments, grand jury, trials, pleas, sentencing, and probation hearings
Key requirements
  • At least 3 years of prior criminal prosecution experience or 8+ years as a practicing lawyer
  • Prior jury trial experience
  • Member in good standing of the Oregon State Bar or awaiting admission or reciprocal admission
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to persuasively present facts and evidence
  • Good judgment and organizational skills; ability to work with others; follow complex instructions; implement legal analysis; interact with the public
  • Valid driver's license
