Overview In this role, you will lead and contribute to ecology-focused teaching and research within BYU's Biology Department. You will teach core ecology and field biology courses and develop experiential learning opportunities for undergraduates and graduates. You will establish a mentored research program at the field-quantitative interface, guiding students and collaborating with colleagues. The position supports BYU's mission through teaching, research, and service, with a strong emphasis on field and quantitative approaches.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate ecology and field biology courses (e.g., BIO 350, BIO 220, BIO 120)
- Develop and support field-based, experiential learning opportunities
- Establish and maintain an externally visible research program involving undergraduate and graduate students
- Mentor students in mentored research and contribute to department and university service
- Support the mission of BYU and participate in interdisciplinary teaching and service
- Contribute to multiple emphases: Ecology & Evolution, Wildlife & Wildlands Conservation, Environmental Science & Sustainability
Key requirements- PhD in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, or closely related field
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ecology, organismal biology, and/or field biology
- Active research program in ecology or related field with undergraduate/graduate involvement
- Experience with field-based, lab-based, or applied ecological research and teaching
- Desire to integrate field-based approaches with quantitative/analytical methods
