Senior Property Risk Engineer

Overview

In this role you own the Property Technical Discipline within an assigned territory, leading risk assessments and advising on risk controls. You will serve as a technical resource for Risk Control teams and Underwriters, while mentoring others and contributing to training. The position combines hands-on field work with expert guidance to drive better risk selection and customer outcomes. You'll engage cross-functionally, stay current on emerging issues, and contribute to higher-value risk management.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-complexity risk evaluations and identify exposures and loss control opportunities
  • Provide consultation to Risk Control staff, underwriters, and business partners
  • Educate customers and promote adoption of recommended risk controls
  • Mentor and develop Risk Control consultants and specialists through guidance and peer reviews
  • Deliver discipline-specific trainings and share expertise with stakeholders
  • Maintain field presence (20%-50% with customers) and manage travel as needed
  • Review survey reports for accuracy and provide feedback to junior staff
  • Stay informed on industry trends and loss data to enhance expertise
  • Support risk pricing discussions with underwriting by sharing actionable findings
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering
  • Six+ years of risk assessment/consulting experience in property discipline or fire protection
  • Valid driver's license
  • Certification in recognized risk control disciplines such as PE or CFPS
  • Strong verbal and written communication to simplify technical content
  • Coaching and talent development skills
  • Expert understanding of risk control in commercial lines insurance
