These mountain ranges surround the Grande Ronde Valley, the second largest enclosed valley in the world and home to Union County. Needless to say, we enjoy a diverse and rich outdoor lifestyle. With a four season climate, Union County is home for many outdoor activities and sports year round. Summer and spring offer opportunities for all styles of fishing; as well as kayaking and swimming, camping, bird watching and hiking, four-wheeling and trail-riding on mountain bike or horseback. With the Mount Emily Recreation Area just two miles from La Grande, there are nearly 3,700 acres of year-round access to the Blue Mountains.
