Delivery Route Driver (With Occasional Back Hauling) - Produce Distribution Facility
Location: Sanford, FL Schedule: Full Time Early Morning Start Times Required
Position Summary
The Delivery Route Driver is responsible for safely operating company vehicles to deliver fresh produce to customers on assigned routes. This role requires professionalism, accuracy in documentation, adherence to food safety and safety standards, and strong customer interaction skills. Drivers must also be able to complete occasional back hauls, including picking up product, packaging, or supplies from vendors or partner locations and returning them to the facility. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail oriented, and committed to maintaining high delivery standards.
Key Responsibilities
Route Deliveries
- Maintain professionalism at all customer locations and follow all delivery instructions.
- Verify product accuracy, obtain required signatures, and document any discrepancies.
- Communicate delays, issues, or customer concerns to the Drivers Manager or dispatch.
Back Hauling Duties (Occasional)
- Complete back haul pickups as assigned, including returning product, packaging, or supplies to the facility.
- Verify pickup documentation and ensure items are secured and transported safely.
- Communicate any issues with back haul loads, vendor delays, or product conditions.
Vehicle Operation & Safety
- Perform pre trip and post trip inspections and document findings accurately.
- Operate vehicles safely and comply with all DOT regulations and company safety policies.
- Report mechanical issues, damage, or safety concerns immediately.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure proper handling of all equipment.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete delivery receipts, invoices, temperature logs, and route paperwork accurately.
- Follow all food safety protocols, including proper handling of refrigerated product.
- Return all documentation to the office or Drivers Manager at the end of each route.
Customer Service
- Communicate clearly, handle customer questions, and resolve minor issues when possible.
- Report customer complaints or concerns promptly.
Warehouse & Fleet Coordination
- Coordinate with warehouse staff during loading to ensure accuracy and proper pallet placement.
- Communicate product shortages, damages, or loading issues before departure.
- Support fleet readiness by reporting vehicle needs and following maintenance schedules.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required depending on vehicle type.
- Experience in delivery driving, transportation, or produce distribution preferred.
- Strong understanding of safe driving practices and DOT compliance.
- Ability to lift, move, and stack boxes up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work early morning schedules.
- Strong communication skills and professional customer interaction.
- Ability to work in refrigerated environments when loading/unloading.
Work Environment
- Fast paced produce distribution facility with time sensitive delivery schedules.
- Frequent interaction with warehouse staff, dispatch, Drivers Manager, and customers.
