Senior Property Accountant

Property Accountant Chicago $85,000 to $100,000 + Bonus/Benefits

The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of properties, partnering closely with property managers, asset management, and ownership to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the monthly and quarterly accounting close process for an assigned portfolio of properties.
• Prepare and review property-level financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
• Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Record and review journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and other property-level accounting activity.
• Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations to property managers and ownership.
• Work closely with property management teams to ensure accurate reporting of operating expenses, tenant activity, and other property-related transactions.
• Assist with annual budgets, reforecasts, and financial reporting packages.
• Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other supporting schedules for accuracy.
• Support the accounting and reporting needs of multiple asset types, including commercial, multifamily, industrial, and other real estate investments.
• Assist with year-end audits, tax support, and other financial reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and overall efficiency.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3+ years of property accounting experience, ideally within a real estate investment, ownership, or property management environment.
• Strong understanding of property-level accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close.
• Experience working with multiple properties and asset types.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting or property management software.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with property managers, asset management, and other internal teams.
• CPA or CPA eligibility is a plus, but not required.
