Job Description Job Description
We're hiring a Traveling Field Service Technician for an established, family-owned manufacturer of precision industrial tooling in the Kansas City area. If you're an auto mechanic with good hands, a solid diagnostic process, and a real itch to travel, this is your move from the shop into a professional field service career. They'll train you on their equipment from the ground up.
What the travel looks like:
- About three trips a month, usually Monday to Thursday, and many trips are back by Wednesday
- Home on weekends, and never more than three weeks in a row on the road
- Mostly flights to California (Napa Valley), Texas, Florida, Wisconsin, and Toronto, plus occasional trips to Mexico and Germany
- You book your own flights and hotels on a company card and keep all your airline and hotel rewards points
- Per diem paid at government rates ($65 to $130 a day), and it's yours whether you spend it or not
- Trips sometimes come up with only a few days' notice, so this role fits someone who's flexible and ready to go
Why mechanics make the switch:
- Steady salary, no flat rate: Your paycheck doesn't depend on how many hours you can flag
- Full training: 3 to 6 months shadowing an experienced tech in the field before you go solo
- All tools provided: No more buying your own
- A career path: Move into a client-facing technical role at a company that's been in business for 60+ years
- Commission opportunity on large equipment sales
Benefits:
- 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and accident insurance premiums
- HSA with employer contributions every pay period
- 401(k) with up to a 6% match
- Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays (time off is negotiable based on experience)
- Flexible Fridays after a heavy travel week
What you'll do:
- Install, repair, calibrate, and maintain precision industrial tooling at customer sites
- Train machine operators on all three shifts on how to use the equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical problems on site
- Read blueprints and assembly drawings to guide repairs and installs
- Share what you see in the field to help customers improve their process
What we're looking for:
- 2+ years as an automotive technician or in a similar hands-on mechanical trade (HVAC and maintenance techs welcome too)
- Strong with hand tools, drilling, tapping, and precision measuring tools
- A clear troubleshooting process: you can walk through how you diagnosed and fixed a real problem
- Basic electrical knowledge (they'll train you the rest of the way)
- You live in the Kansas City area
- You're open to traveling about 75% of the time and have a passport or can get one
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, not required
If you light up at the idea of getting paid to see new cities, we want to talk to you. Apply today and we'll reach out within 24 hours.
