Structural Fitter

Unite Contracting seeks Structural Fitters to assemble and fit structural steel frameworks, industrial equipment, ship or marine structures, and heavy machinery components. Reporting to a fabrication supervisor, this role works independently from drawings while partnering closely with welders and quality inspectors to deliver accurate, high-quality assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints and work independently from fabrication drawings.
• Prepare materials for structural assembly and component fitting.
• Assemble structural steel frameworks, industrial equipment, marine structures, and heavy machinery components.
• Use hand and power tools, overhead cranes, rigging equipment, plasma cutters, and oxy-fuel torches.
• Coordinate welding activities with welders and support proper fit-up.
• Perform self-inspections, dimensional checks, and fit-up verification.
• Complete formal quality documentation and coordinate inspections with welding inspectors.
• Follow fabrication quality and safety requirements while working as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of structural fitting experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Blueprint reading and metal fabrication experience.
• Experience with structural steel assembly and welding processes.
• Proficiency with precision measurement and power tools.
• Mechanical aptitude and strong attention to detail.
• Safety awareness and ability to work effectively in a team.
