We're a growing estate planning, probate, and fiduciary litigation law firm in Chapel Hill, NC. We're looking for a Client Engagement Specialist: a salesperson who would rather understand people than talk at them.
Our clients don't come to us to buy documents. They come because something in their life feels uncertain. A parent's health is declining, a loved one has died, or a family is in conflict, and they want a better future. Your job is to help them see what that future can look like and make a courageous decision to get there.
This is not a hunting job. You won't be cold calling. Prospective clients come to us, our Intake team prepares them, and you meet with about four families a day. The people who thrive here are gatherers. They love building relationships, they stay in touch over weeks or months, and they measure success by how the client's life changes.
Compensation:$150,000+ (on-target earnings based on performance)
Responsibilities:Who you are
Curious. You ask good questions, listen more than you talk, and want to understand a family's situation before you recommend anything.
Tenacious. You follow up warmly and persistently, because you know "not yet" isn't "no."
Resilient. A no-show, a "let me think about it," or a slow week doesn't knock you off course. You bring the same energy to the next call.
Client-centered. You're comfortable not being the expert in the room, because our attorneys handle the legal advice. You'd rather the client be the hero of the story than you.
Proven in sales. You've sold high-end services or products consultatively and have the results to show for it. You can discuss big price points and complex, emotional situations with maturity and sensitivity.
Responsibilities
Conduct about four 1-hour initial consultations a day (in-person or Zoom) with families who need estate planning or probate help
Follow up with prospective clients who haven't decided yet, and stay in touch with former clients
Manage the process from consultation through engagement and hand-off to the legal team, and keep accurate records in our CRM
Qualifications:Qualifications
2+ years of consultative sales with a track record of results, ideally selling high-end professional services
Inside sales experience nurturing warm or inbound leads
CRM experience, including reporting
Clear communication by phone, by video, and in writing
Willingness to learn quickly about new topics like Wills, Trusts, and Probate. No legal experience is required, because the salesperson never gives legal advice.
Real-life experience and a few "battle scars" that give you empathy are a plus. Many of the families we serve are facing dementia, other progressive illnesses, grief, or end-of-life decisions. If you've overcome a major obstacle and made an important change in your own life, you know at your core that others can do it too.
How we sell
We believe sales is a service we do for our prospects. We help them understand their situation, think through their options, and make courageous decisions about their future. Even if we don't take on someone's case, every prospective client should leave better off than when they came in. Our motto is "Everyone Gets Helped." If you think sales is about pressure, or about what you can "get" from someone or "talk them into," this isn't the role for you.
We see the sale as the beginning of a long-term relationship. If you want a career (we really think of it as more of a calling) with competitive income and benefits, plenty of training, total transparency, and work that feeds your soul because you're truly helping people, we'd love to hear from you.
Compensation and benefits
$60,000 base plus a performance bonus, with $150,000 in on-target earnings. Benefits include paid holidays, paid time off, and medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% of premiums paid by the firm, plus a retirement savings plan with employer match.
How to apply
Please include a cover letter that answers these three questions:
Tell us about a customer you stayed in touch with for weeks or months before they decided. What kept you going?
Tell us about a time you asked a customer a question that changed how you understood their situation.
Why does helping families with estate planning and probate interest you?
Applicants who include a cover letter will be invited to complete a brief written interview before any live interviews. It helps us see how you read, write, and think.
