Salvage Yard Associate
Location: Kansas City, KS
Pay: $20.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
Work Environment: Outdoor Scrap Yard / Automotive Recycling
Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Salvage Yard Associate to join a busy scrap yard team in Kansas City, KS. This position involves general labor, yard cleanup, vehicle preparation, and assisting with daily scrap yard operations. Associates will initially be responsible for cleaning out vehicles before they are dismantled.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, performing physically demanding tasks, and working around vehicles, scrap materials, dirt, noise, and industrial equipment. This is a hands-on position best suited for someone who does not mind dirty work, stays active throughout the day, and maintains a strong commitment to workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean out vehicles upon arrival before they are dismantled.
- Perform general labor duties throughout the scrap yard.
- Assist with yard cleanup, organization, and routine maintenance.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Assist other team members with daily yard operations and material handling.
- Handle, move, and organize scrap materials and other items as needed.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings and follow all safety procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Keep work areas clean and help maintain a safe working environment.
- Operate equipment as assigned and authorized.
Qualifications
- Dependable, hardworking, and comfortable performing physical labor.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Comfortable working around vehicles, scrap materials, dirt, fumes, and other industrial conditions.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining attention to detail and awareness of surroundings.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, machinery, and equipment is preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions and comply with all workplace safety requirements.
- Previous scrap yard, automotive, warehouse, or general labor experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk frequently throughout the yard, including on uneven ground.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds consistently.
- Bend and crouch frequently to access and move materials.
- Push and pull materials occasionally.
- Grasp, handle, and manipulate materials continuously throughout the workday.
- Maintain arm-hand steadiness while performing detailed tasks.
- Sit only occasionally, as the position requires continuous movement.
Work Environment & Safety
This position is performed primarily outdoors and involves regular exposure to varying weather conditions, dirt, noise, fumes, scrap materials, and other physical hazards common to a scrap yard. Associates must be comfortable working in an industrial environment and cleaning out vehicles that may contain unpleasant or dirty materials.
Required personal protective equipment may include safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and other protective equipment as needed.
