Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer with practical experience in mechanical design, blueprint interpretation, CAD drafting, estimating, and metal fabrication. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working from customer specifications and engineering drawings, preparing accurate bids and material estimates, and operating manufacturing equipment such as a plasma burn table.
This position requires a combination of technical design skills, problem-solving ability, cost estimation, and hands-on shop experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and work from engineering blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Create, modify, and maintain CAD drawings, including 2D CAD drawings and mechanical layouts.
- Develop and revise part drawings, fabrication drawings, and production documentation.
- Prepare customer bids, job quotes, and cost estimates based on drawings, materials, labor, and manufacturing requirements.
- Calculate material requirements, dimensions, quantities, and fabrication costs.
- Operate and set up burn table equipment
- Prepare cutting files and ensure drawings are properly formatted for production equipment.
- Work with shop personnel to ensure parts are manufactured accurately and efficiently.
- Review projects for manufacturability, material usage, accuracy, and cost effectiveness.
- Troubleshoot drawing, fabrication, and production issues as they arise.
- Maintain organized records of drawings, quotes, job files, and revisions.
- Follow all shop safety procedures and equipment operating requirements.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who can take a project from a customer drawing or concept through the estimating and drafting process and into production. They should be comfortable working at a computer to develop drawings and quotes while also spending time on the shop floor supporting fabrication and operating equipment when needed.
