About Magnasphere

Magnasphere is a U.S.-based manufacturer of innovative magnetic switch technology and security sensors designed to provide reliable, tamper-resistant protection for commercial, residential, industrial, and high-security applications. Our patented technology offers differentiated solutions for customers seeking dependable performance in demanding environments.

Magnasphere is experiencing rapid growth, creating exciting opportunities to strengthen our engineering capabilities, improve our manufacturing processes, and develop the next generation of products. We are looking for talented, hands-on individuals who want to contribute to that growth and make a meaningful impact on our products and operations.

About the Role

Magnasphere is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Mechanical Design Technician to join our growing engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with 3D CAD, solving practical engineering problems, and improving the accuracy and quality of engineering documentation while contributing to new product development.

The primary responsibilities include mechanical design, 3D part modeling, assembly development, engineering drawing creation, and the modernization of existing engineering documentation. This individual will also support new product development (NPD), maintain bills of material (BOMs), assist with reverse engineering, and help develop manufacturing jigs and fixtures.

The position will work closely with engineering and manufacturing personnel and will also provide technical support to customers by answering questions about our products. Product-specific training will be provided, so prior experience in the security industry is not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and modify 3D CAD models of mechanical parts, components, and assemblies, along with associated engineering drawings.
  • Produce accurate, complete, and manufacturable drawings, including appropriate dimensions, tolerances, and technical details.
  • Support new product development activities from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and production introduction.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing personnel to improve product designs, manufacturability, reliability, and assembly consistency.
  • Reverse engineer existing components and assemblies using physical samples, measurements, and legacy documentation.
  • Lead efforts to review, correct, update, and standardize existing engineering drawings and CAD models, resolving discrepancies between documentation and actual production parts.
  • Create, review, and maintain bills of material (BOMs) to support product development, manufacturing, and engineering changes.
  • Help establish and maintain effective engineering documentation practices, drawing standards, revision control, and engineering change management.
  • Design and develop manufacturing jigs, fixtures, assembly aids, and other tooling to improve production efficiency, consistency, and product quality.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical design, fit-up, and assembly issues in collaboration with manufacturing personnel, identifying opportunities to prevent errors and improve processes.
  • Provide technical support to customers by answering questions about product operation, installation, dimensions, and specifications.
  • Assist with prototype builds, design evaluations, and other engineering activities as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of experience using 3D CAD software in a professional engineering, design, or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in 3D part modeling, assembly creation, and engineering drawing development.
  • Experience creating, reviewing, or maintaining bills of material (BOMs).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and mechanical design requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality engineering documentation.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work with physical components and existing products.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams.

Preferred

  • Experience with PTC Creo and/or Alibre Design.
  • Experience supporting new product development, prototyping, or product design improvements.
  • Experience reverse engineering existing parts and assemblies from physical samples, measurements, or legacy drawings.
  • Experience designing manufacturing jigs, fixtures, assembly aids, or simple tooling.
  • Familiarity with mechanical assemblies, electromechanical products, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with CAD libraries, drawing standards, revision histories, or engineering change documentation.
  • Experience providing technical support to customers or internal manufacturing teams.
  • Metrology experience.

A specific college degree is not required. Relevant professional experience, technical education, and demonstrated CAD and mechanical design skills are valued.

Product-specific training will be provided. Prior experience in the security industry is not necessary.
