Seattle Select Sewers is hiring an experienced Excavation & Sewer Laborer to join our field crew. We're looking for someone who knows how to operate excavation equipment and has hands-on experience installing sewer or underground utility pipe.
This is not an entry-level laborer position. You should have proven work experience operating a mini excavator, working in trenches, and installing pipe.
What You'll Do
- Operate mini excavators safely and efficiently
- Excavate trenches for sewer and drainage installations
- Install and replace PVC sewer and drainage pipe
- Properly grade, bed, and connect pipe
- Assist with side sewer repairs and replacements
- Hand dig around utilities, foundations, and other structures
- Install and work around trench shoring
- Backfill and compact excavations
- Operate compactors and other construction equipment
- Load, unload, and move equipment and materials
- Maintain clean and organized job sites
- Work alongside crew leads and sewer technicians to complete jobs efficiently
- Perform general construction duties as needed
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Previous experience operating a mini excavator
- Previous experience installing sewer, drainage, or underground utility pipe
- Understanding of proper pipe grade and installation
- Comfortable working in and around trenches
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
- Valid driver's license
- Dependable and punctual
- Strong work ethic and attention to job-site safety
- Ability to work effectively as part of a crew
- Must pass a background check
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- Side sewer installation and repair
- Underground utility construction
- Trench shoring and excavation safety
- Pipe lasers and grade equipment
- Hydro-jetting
- Skid steers or compact track loaders
- Compaction equipment
- Driving work trucks and towing equipment trailers
Compensation & Benefits
- $30-$35/hour, depending on experience
