21North Restaurant, located in the heart of Medfield, Massachusetts, is seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on Head Chef to lead our kitchen team. We're looking for a strong culinary leader who takes pride in great food, organization, consistency, and creating a positive, team-oriented kitchen environment.
The ideal candidate is a skilled chef and an effective leader who works closely with restaurant management to ensure smooth daily operations, exceptional food quality, and an outstanding guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and motivate a team of cooks and expeditors.
- Work closely with restaurant management to coordinate daily operations, staffing, service execution, and overall kitchen performance.
- Collaborate with management to curate, develop, and refine menu items and specials that reflect the restaurant's vision, appeal to guests, and maintain quality and profitability.
- Oversee kitchen opening and closing procedures, ensuring all duties are completed accurately and consistently.
- Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, consistency, and ticket times.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local and state health codes, food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and proper food-handling procedures.
- Manage food preparation, kitchen organization, inventory, ordering, and product rotation.
- Monitor food costs, minimize waste, and maintain appropriate portion control.
- Train and develop kitchen staff while promoting accountability, teamwork, and professionalism.
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and fully prepared for service daily.
- Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff and management to ensure a seamless dining experience.
- Lead by example, remain calm under pressure, and help the team deliver consistent results during busy services.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or in a comparable kitchen leadership role.
- Current ServSafe for Managers certification required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Solid understanding of food safety, sanitation, and local and state health department requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Experience with inventory management, ordering, food cost control, and staff scheduling preferred.
- Creativity and a passion for menu development, seasonal ingredients, and delivering an exceptional dining experience.
- A hands-on approach, strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for food and hospitality.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
