Job Description Job Description
Specific Functions:
This role supports manufacturing quality and reliability requirements by applying conformal coating materials according to work instructions, engineering drawings, and process specifications. The SMTT Assembly A Technician is responsible for securing electronic components, wires, and hardware on printed circuit boards and electronic assemblies using approved staking, bonding, and coating methods. This work ensures assemblies meet mechanical stability, vibration resistance, environmental durability, and workmanship standards in alignment with manufacturing and quality requirements.
Examples of Staking / Bonding / Conformal Coating Tasks
• Staking involves applying a controlled amount of adhesive or staking compound to components, wires, or hardware on a circuit board to hold them securely in place. This prevents movement, vibration-related damage, and mechanical stress during handling or operation. Materials are typically dispensed with a syringe, needle, or automated applicator and then cured per process requirements.
• Bonding is the application of adhesive to attach or secure parts such as wires, connectors, terminals, or components to a circuit assembly. Surfaces are often cleaned or prepared to ensure proper adhesion before bonding. The adhesive is applied to the specified areas using a syringe and then cured to create a durable, secure attachment that supports assembly strength and reliability.
• Conformal Coating is a thin protective film applied over completed circuit boards and components to shield against moisture, dust, chemicals, corrosion, and other environmental contaminants. Sensitive areas (connectors, switches, test points) are masked before coating. Application may be done by syringe, brushing, spraying, dipping, or automated equipment, followed by curing to form a protective, board conforming barrier.
Overall Summary
A developing support individual contributor role.
Works under general supervision.
Tasks are less structured but follow defined boundaries and procedures.
Identifies and reports issues occurring in straightforward situations.
The Assembler is responsible for preparing, masking, coating, curing, and inspecting printed circuit boards and electronic assemblies to ensure protection against moisture, dust, chemicals, corrosion, and environmental exposure.
