Appalachian Drilling Company is seeking a hardworking and safety-focused Construction Laborer to join our deep foundations team. In this role, you will provide critical support to our drill rig operators and crew in the excavation and construction of large diameter drilled shafts (caissons) for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Preparation & Support: Assist with general site preparation, clearing, and setup. Provide continuous ground support to drill rig operators during excavation.
- Casing & Slurry Assistance: Help with the handling, installation, and extraction of temporary or permanent steel casings. Assist with wet-hole construction methods, including mixing and managing polymer slurry systems.
- Equipment Maintenance & Rigging: Perform daily pre-shift and post-shift equipment checks as directed. Assist with basic preventative maintenance, greasing, and cleaning of tools and machinery. Rig materials and equipment for lifting.
- Concrete Placement: Coordinate and assist with concrete pouring operations, including the setup, handling, and cleaning of tremie pipes and pump lines.
- Rebar & Anchor Bolt Setting: Assist in rigging, guiding, and setting heavy rebar cages. Help secure, align, and set anchor bolts and templates prior to and during the concrete pour.
- Site Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by removing debris, organizing tools, and securing materials.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Previous experience in heavy civil construction, deep foundations, or concrete work is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate.
- Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of construction tools, rigging, and safety protocols. Familiarity with drilled shaft construction is a plus.
- Certifications: Current OSHA 10 certification preferred.
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license required. A Class A or B CDL is a plus.
- Work Ethic: Strong problem-solving skills, ability to follow instructions, and a commitment to working safely and efficiently as part of a team.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to work safely outdoors in all weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, mud, etc.).
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor, climb on and off machinery, consistently lift up to 50 lbs (and occasionally more), and stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to work long hours, overtime, and occasional weekends as project schedules demand.
- Willingness to travel to various job sites within the Southeastern US.
