WHO YOU ARE

You are a medical or osteopathic practitioner licensed by the state in which you plan to work.

In addition to being board-certified or board-eligible in hospice and palliative medicine, internal medicine, family practice, or a related specialty, you should be familiar with the principles of hospice and registered with the DEA.

You keep patient welfare at the center of everything you do, giving your best each day to extend comfort and dignity to all people at the end of life s journey.

WHAT YOU LL DO

As a hospice physician, you will partner with interdisciplinary teammates to provide VITAS patients and families with high-quality care at the most challenging point in life.

Through a combination of inpatient rounds and in-home visits, you will use your compassion, communication skills and deep expertise to build meaningful relationships with your patients and the people who love them.

You will see the person behind each prognosis and create care plans centered around the patient s wishes, needs and beliefs, often working in concert with the patient s primary care physician.

You will advocate for all patients with a strong sense of commitment, discussing goals for their care while addressing their hopes and fears.

WHERE YOU LL WORK

You will split your time between regular rounds in an inpatient unit (IPU) a hospital-like environment in a fixed location and home visits to patients who choose to receive hospice and palliative care in a private residence, assisted living facility or skilled nursing facility.

Both environments come with support from an interdisciplinary team of hospice and palliative experts nurses, aides, chaplains and social workers.

In the IPU, you ll collaborate with teammates who work in that environment each day. Outside of it, you'll lead a weekly meeting with the teammates who assist in the home-visit portion of your practice
