Pediatric Optometrist Needed Oakland, CA

Start Date: August 2026
Contract Length: 26 Weeks (6 Months)
Schedule: Monday Friday 8:00 AM 5:00 PM
Practice Setting
Outpatient Hospital Setting
Full-time coverage needed (5 shifts/week)
Average patient volume: patients per day
30-minute appointment slots
First patient at 8:00 AM, last patient at 4:30 PM
Patient Population
Primarily pediatric patients
Some adult patients with developmental delays and double vision (not mandatory for locum to see adults)
Department treats both bread-and-butter and high-acuity pediatric optometry cases
Experience working with neurodiverse and spectrum patients strongly preferred
Department Highlights
Collaborative team environment with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and dedicated tech support
Techs perform diagnostic imaging and testing
Facility equipped with all necessary imaging devices
Many patients are co-managed with pediatric specialties including neurology and craniofacial teams
Preferred Experience & Skills
Pediatric optometry experience required
Strong experience with strabismus/binocular vision exams
Experience treating complex pediatric populations in a medical center setting
Contact lens fitting experience preferred, including complex pediatric fittings
Requirements
Doctor of Optometry (OD) required
Pediatric Optometry Residency highly preferred
If no pediatric residency, provider must have at least 3 years of pediatric experience in a medical center setting
Active California License Required
BLS Required
