Locums - Hartford, Connecticut Physician Assistant Cardiothoracic Surgery Opportunity

Clinical RoleRecruitWell is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant for a locums Cardiothoracic Surgery opportunity in Hartford, Connecticut. This is an inpatient-only weekend assignment covering two hospital sites and includes consults, OR first-assist responsibilities, and management of patients on the step-down unit. The provider will work autonomously, so prior Cardiothoracic Surgery experience is required and new graduates will not be considered.

Assignment Details

• Start: As soon as credentialed

• Assignment length: 6 months

• Option to extend

• Weekend coverage only

• Friday 6:00 PM - Sunday 6:00 PM

• Must be able to cover both assigned hospital sites

• Provider must be local

Position Highlights

• Inpatient-only Cardiothoracic Surgery opportunity

• Level I Trauma Center

• Average of approximately 10 patients per day

• OR assist responsibilities

• Inpatient consults

• Step-down unit patient management

• Autonomous practice

• No supervising physician physically present during the assignment

• No new graduates

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

• Perform pre-operative physical examinations

• Provide inpatient Cardiothoracic Surgery consultations

• Assist in surgery

• Manage patients on the step-down unit

• Round on assigned patients

• Diagnose and treat illnesses

• Order and interpret diagnostic testing

• Write prescriptions

• Coordinate patient care

• Perform suture removal

• Manage adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients

Procedures & Skills

• Central venous catheter placement

• Dialysis catheter placement

• Arterial line placement

• Endoscopic retrieval

• Intra-aortic balloon pump placement is not required

Support & Technology

• EMR: Epic

• Epic experience preferred

• Level I Trauma Center

• Coverage across two hospital sites

Requirements

• Physician Assistant

• NCCPA Board Certification required

• Active Connecticut license in hand at time of submission required

• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required

• Must be comfortable practicing autonomously

• Must be able to cover both hospital locations

• Provider must be local

• No new graduates

Credentialing

• Start date dependent on completion of credentialing

• Connecticut license must already be active at the time of submission

Organization & Team

• Inpatient Cardiothoracic Surgery service

• Coverage includes consults, operative assistance, and step-down unit management

• Provider will work independently during weekend coverage

• Assignment requires flexibility to cover both hospital sites
