Pay: $90/hour W-2 + tax-free stipend
Overtime: Paid after 8 hours/day at 1.5
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to provide inpatient trauma coverage at an acute care hospital in Hillcrest, San Diego, CA.
This is a fast-paced inpatient trauma position caring for patients with variable acuity across the Trauma Floor and Stepdown Unit. The PA will work alongside an established trauma team and provide daily clinical support, patient management, and care coordination.
No ICU-level care, OR responsibilities, or first-assist duties are required.
Schedule & Coverage
3 12-hour shifts per week / 36 hours
Day shifts: 6:00 AM 6:30 PM
Scheduling may include Monday through Sunday
Weekend availability is required
30-minute lunch break
Holiday coverage is required
Strong preference for providers available to work holidays
Coverage needed from November 16, 2026 through January 31, 2027
Strong possibility of extension into 2027
Clinical Responsibilities
The PA will support the trauma service with:
Daily inpatient rounding
Patient evaluations and ongoing clinical management
Daily progress note documentation
Discharges and discharge planning
Care coordination
General clinical support for the trauma team
Management of a fast-paced, variable-acuity inpatient trauma population
Patient volume: Up to 15 patients per day
APP support: Approximately 2 APPs per shift
What This Position Does NOT Include
No ICU-level care
No OR responsibilities
No first-assist responsibilities
The primary focus is providing reliable daily inpatient support to the trauma service, including rounding, patient management, documentation, discharges, and care coordination.
Requirements
Current California Physician Assistant (PA) license
Acute Care certification required
Prior trauma experience required
Level I Trauma experience strongly preferred
Current NCCPA certification
Current BLS/CPR certification
Current ACLS certification
Strong inpatient clinical experience
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced trauma environment
Weekend availability required
Holiday availability strongly preferred
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced Physician Assistant with acute care and trauma experience who is comfortable managing inpatient patients in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a PA with Level I trauma and acute care experience who prefers inpatient trauma work without ICU, OR, or first-assist responsibilities.
