Director of Adult Congenital Heart Disease
The UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Heart Institute is seeking an exceptional physician leader to serve as Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) Program. This is a unique opportunity to lead and expand a rapidly growing, accredited ACHD program dedicated to the comprehensive care of adolescents and adults living with congenital heart disease.
The well-established ACHD program is currently supported by three ACHD physicians, including the Director, two advanced practice providers, two dedicated registered nurses, a research coordinator, and a social worker. The successful candidate will provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership for a program that serves a complex and expanding patient population across the lifespan. Working closely with Heart Institute leadership, the Division Chief, and adult cardiovascular partners, the Director will play a critical role in advancing a seamless continuum of care from fetal diagnosis and pediatric congenital heart disease through adulthood and lifelong management.
The ACHD Program is uniquely positioned within the UPMC system through its close collaboration with both the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Heart Institute and the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. This integrated model provides patients access to nationally recognized expertise in congenital cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, heart failure and transplant, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac intensive care, maternal cardiovascular health, and high-risk pregnancy care.
Clinical services are delivered across multiple pediatric and adult cardiovascular locations throughout Western Pennsylvania and are supported by a growing network of regional satellite and outreach sites extending into Western Maryland and New York. These strategically aligned sites enhance access to highly specialized ACHD care while allowing patients to remain connected to care closer to home.
The ACHD Program is further distinguished by its accredited Adult Congenital Heart Disease Fellowship Program, providing advanced subspecialty training for the next generation of ACHD physicians. Faculty actively participate in medical education, mentorship, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research through the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, creating a dynamic academic environment committed to innovation and excellence.
