Compensation & Travel

24-Hour Call Pay: $3,000 $3,100/day ($125.00 $129.17/hour equivalent)
Callback Pay: $417 $453/hour

Fully covered housing, coordinated on your behalf

Round-trip airfare home coordinated and covered throughout the assignment
Travel and accommodations are arranged and covered throughout the assignment

Additional support includes dedicated credentialing assistance, malpractice coverage assistance, streamlined onboarding, weekly pay, and ongoing recruiter support from placement through completion of your assignment.

Summary

HCEPInc. is seeking a Locum Neurosurgeon to provide ongoing coverage for an established neurosurgery program in Topeka, Kansas. This opportunity is available to help reduce the call burden for the facility s two employed neurosurgeons and consists of 24-hour call coverage in a hospital-based setting.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing a broad range of neurosurgical cases, including spine, cranial, and trauma cases, while providing operative coverage, inpatient follow-up, and rounding.

Schedule & Call

Coverage is structured as a 7-day rotation from Friday at 7:00 AM through the following Friday at 7:00 AM.

The provider will be responsible for 24-hour call coverage throughout the scheduled rotation. Actual active clinical hours may vary based on patient volume and facility needs.

Call responsibilities include:

  • Operating Room coverage
  • Inpatient follow-up and rounding
  • Neurosurgical consultations
  • Trauma coverage
  • Callback coverage as needed

Callback compensation applies at the applicable hourly rate once the designated gratis period has been exceeded.

Case Mix
  • Approximately 80% spine/back cases
  • Approximately 20% cranial cases
  • Neurosurgical trauma cases
  • No pediatric cases
Support Staff

Hospital-based clinical support is available throughout the assignment.

Job Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive neurosurgical coverage in an inpatient hospital setting.

Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients requiring neurosurgical consultation and treatment.

Perform appropriate spine, cranial, and trauma-related neurosurgical procedures.

Provide operating room coverage, inpatient rounding, follow-up care, and postoperative management.

Respond to callback needs and urgent neurosurgical cases during scheduled call coverage.

Document patient encounters accurately and timely within Epic EMR.

Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, operating room teams, and ancillary departments to provide high-quality patient care.

Maintain compliance with facility policies, clinical standards, and applicable quality and safety requirements.

Qualifications

MD or DO required.

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurosurgery required.

Demonstrated experience managing spine, cranial, and neurosurgical trauma cases required.

Ability to provide 24-hour neurosurgical call coverage required.

Active or eligible Kansas medical license required.

Current DEA registration required.

Flu vaccination required.

Strong communication, collaboration, and patient care skills required.
