- Patient Population: Newborns and infants, approximately 0-1 year of age
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $6,480-$7,670
- Credentialing: Estimated timeframe of approximately 60 days
Pediatric Ophthalmologist Job Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
- At least 1 year of ophthalmology experience; pediatric ophthalmology and ROP screening experience preferred
- Board certification in the appropriate ophthalmology specialty is required
- Current, unrestricted Texas physician license or eligibility for Texas licensure
- Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
- Ability to evaluate and screen premature and high-risk infants in NICU settings
- Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and commitment to high-quality neonatal and pediatric eye care
ROP Screening Physician Responsibilities
- Perform retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screenings for newborns and infants in three neonatal intensive care units
- Complete scheduled inpatient ophthalmic examinations and provide accurate clinical documentation
- Assess retinal and ocular development in premature and medically complex infants
- Collaborate with NICU nurses, neonatologists, pediatricians, and other care team members regarding screening findings and follow-up needs
- Interpret relevant ophthalmic studies, including ocular imaging and ultrasound, as clinically appropriate
- Recommend timely follow-up, treatment, or referral when ocular abnormalities are identified
- Provide compassionate, age-appropriate pediatric eye care while supporting families and neonatal teams
