Medical Assistants for Correctional Facilities Join a dynamic healthcare team providing essential medical support in correctional settings. This role offers hands-on clinical experience, collaboration with medical professionals, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a secure facility environment. Service Delivery Requirements: Under the supervision of a licensed Physician, Surgeon, or Podiatrist, and administrative supervision at a correctional facility, the Temporary/Relief Medical Assistant will perform a variety of administrative and clinical duties, including but not limited to: Administering basic life support in emergencies. Using medical equipment safely. Administering intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections and skin tests. Administering eye/ear washes. Administering prescribed medications topically, sublingually, and orally. Administering basic breathing treatments. Removing casts, splints, sutures, and other external devices. Changing simple dressings. Collecting blood via capillary and venipuncture techniques. Collecting lab specimens using appropriate equipment; labeling specimens appropriately. Measuring vital signs. Administering basic vision tests. Conducting Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived point-of-care testing. Demonstrating the use of healthcare appliances (e.g., canes, crutches, braces). Attending to the physical needs of patients to ensure comfort. Performing therapeutic interventions to assist patients in regaining or improving physical/behavioral adaptive skills. Explaining treatment procedures and medical instructions; communicating effectively with patients and staff. Identifying patients with disabilities to ensure reasonable accommodations. Caring for patients' personal property to ensure safe storage. Assisting and following provider orders during medical exams and treatments. Interviewing patients to obtain medical information; preparing patients for medical examinations; escorting patients to exam rooms. Observing, documenting, and reporting clinical symptoms and behavior; recording medical history and test results in health records; preparing exam rooms. Maintaining confidentiality of medical information. Practicing universal precautions to maintain infection control. Identifying and reporting possible security breaches; identifying and reporting behavior that may signal an impending incident. Scheduling patients; inventorying medical clinic and office supplies; assisting staff in counting, distributing, and accounting for all utensils to prevent their use as weapons.
