Integrated Design Manager

Job description

Overview

In this role you will drive design delivery for design-build and preconstruction projects, shaping deliverables, schedules, and design quality. You will partner with project teams to align design content with milestones, manage design reviews, and control scope and cost through to construction. You'll lead the RFI process, document control, and ensure regulatory and owner standards are met while advancing VDC/BIM workflows. The position offers impact by improving budgets, timelines, and design integrity in a collaborative, cross-functional setting.

Responsibilities
  • Define, schedule and monitor design deliverables on design-build or alternate delivery projects
  • Coordinate design document packaging, milestones, content quality, and design status reporting
  • Manage design conflicts and the RFI process; maintain document control systems
  • Host or manage Value Analysis sessions to optimize cost and materials
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and owner/vendor requirements
  • Coordinate proposals, develop RFPs for design firms or design-build teams
  • Prepare scopes of work for designers/subcontractors and ensure no gaps in design services
  • Coordinate VDC workflows and co-location requirements; integrate budgets with design and construction
  • Develop VDC/BIM execution plans and monitor design progress against budgets
  • Oversee McCarthy quality program, lessons learned, and risk management
  • Build relationships with leadership, owners, architects, engineers, and legal teams
  • Maintain awareness of project development agreements and compliance with design-related terms
  • Monitor design progress between estimates and updates to control budget and schedule
  • Coordinate overall design deliverables with construction schedules
  • Update procedures to reflect best design management practices
Key requirements
  • 10+ years' experience managing and coordinating design disciplines
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture
  • Proven experience directing design teams in the design phase
  • Experience with design-build or design-assist projects
  • Good understanding of building systems and ability to coordinate MEP and enclosures
  • Proficiency with BIM and software such as Revit, Navisworks, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access
  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect preferred
  • Affiliations with professional organizations preferred
