Overview

In this role you will own avionics thermal management for V-BAT, shaping the thermal architecture from concept to production. You'll work across mechanical, electrical, PCBA, and systems teams to drive robust cooling solutions and qualification plans. You'll lead modeling, testing, and verification, mentoring engineers to raise the organization's thermal capability. This is a mission-driven, fast-paced opportunity to impact aircraft systems and reliability at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Own avionics thermal management across V-BAT from concept to production
  • Define thermal architecture and environmental/interface requirements for bays, enclosures, and components
  • Develop and validate analytical, numerical, and CFD models (FloEFD, etc.) and set modeling standards
  • Lead trade studies, system architecture decisions, and risk assessments
  • Plan and execute thermal qualification and verification testing, correlate models with test data
  • Influence early electrical/PCBA design decisions related to thermal design
  • Prepare thermal specifications and statements of work; evaluate suppliers for thermal hardware
  • Lead design reviews and produce technical reports; mentor junior/senior engineers
  • Identify and mitigate program-level thermal risks
  • Communicate findings clearly to engineering teams and leadership
Key requirements
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline
  • 8+ years in avionics/electronics thermal engineering with ownership through production
  • Expert heat transfer and fluid mechanics knowledge; ability to validate models from first principles
  • Experience with active and passive cooling solutions at multiple levels
  • Proficiency with thermal analysis tools (ANSYS Icepak, FloEFD, STAR-CCM+)
  • CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks) and PLM-controlled design release
  • Experience with thermal qualification and test instrumentation/data acquisition
  • Strong technical leadership and cross-functional influence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; self-directed in fast-paced environments
