Overview As an Ocean Marine underwriter, you will underwrite new business and renewals with profitability in mind, using authority-guided guidelines. You'll handle larger, more complex accounts and mentor less experienced colleagues while collaborating with product leaders and producers. Your work influences pricing, coverage decisions, and premium outcomes across states, with opportunities to cross-sell Markel solutions. Responsibilities- Review and accept/decline Ocean Marine risks to ensure profitability
- Underwrite new business and manage renewals to meet profitability targets
- Communicate with regional managers and product line leaders on accounts and producer relationships
- Participate in audits and underwriting meetings
- Build relationships with key producers and cross-sell across Markel divisions
- Review competitor forms and pricing to market Markel offerings effectively
Key requirements- 5+ years of profitable Ocean Marine underwriting experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills; good presentation abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
- Flexibility to travel up to 25%
