Central Regional Business Development Leader (Federal)

Overview

As the Central Region Business Development Leader, you will steer HDR's federal growth in the Central Region. You'll connect HDR's full capabilities with federal client needs, build key relationships, and lead high-value pursuit efforts to win contracts. You will supervise and mentor the BD/marketing team, manage budgets, and drive strategic investments aligned with company goals. This role combines market insight, cross disciplinary collaboration, and hands-on pursuit leadership to advance HDR's mission in the federal space.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of HDR's federal offerings and coordinate with regional project delivery teams
  • Manage regional BD/marketing budgets and participate in annual budgeting
  • Track market trends and client drivers to inform strategy
  • Create annual and long-term strategic growth plans and prioritize investments
  • Lead pursuit teams, coordinate capture planning, and approve go/no-go decisions
  • Act as pursuit lead in proposal development and guide interview messaging
  • Manage key client relationships and develop long-term client plans
  • Identify and partner with teaming and industry partners
  • Maintain CRM/Sales Cloud data and report on metrics
  • Apply HDR's risk management approach to new opportunities
  • Engage in professional associations to elevate HDR's brand
  • Coordinate with Federal Client Service Director and other BD/marketing leaders
Key requirements
  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Self-starter with track record of autonomous project delivery
  • Deep knowledge of A/E/C procurement for professional services
  • Proven ability to motivate and build networks of clients and partners
  • Experience in sales and developing win strategies
  • Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness and ability to travel for in-person engagement
  • Experience growing programs in new or highly competitive markets
  • Experience winning high-value contracts in A/E/C
  • Experience writing compelling content from technical staff
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Professional license or certification (preferred)
