Overview As a Preconstruction Manager in McCarthy's Water Preconstruction/Estimating team, you drive the early-stage approach to projects, coordinating with owners and design teams. You lead bid processes, manage budgets, and shape preconstruction deliverables that align with contractual obligations. You'll work across design, estimation, and field staff to mitigate risk and support informed decisions. This role offers impact through close collaboration with stakeholders and by advancing project strategies in water/wastewater initiatives.
Responsibilities- Act as Bid Captain, leading estimate/bid meetings and interview preparation for negotiated bids
- Build and maintain relationships with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and internal clients; represent McCarthy on-site and at industry events
- Track and manage project budgets and prepare contract qualifications for legal review
- Implement and oversee preconstruction and construction schedules; support safety and EEO/Affirmative Action programs
- Manage documentation and deliverables, presenting organized materials to project owners
- Represent McCarthy in design and coordination meetings, proposing alternatives and assisting design decisions
- Participate in prequalification, respond to RFPs/RFQs, manage buyout log and chart of accounts
- Assist in training project staff and manage risk across projects
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering, and/or minimum of 5 years of relevant estimating, design management and/or field management experience
- In-depth knowledge of construction principles/practices
- Experience on municipal and/or industrial water and wastewater projects
- Experience with alternative delivery projects including cost modeling, cost trending, and GMPs
- Experience estimating self-perform disciplines (labor and material pricing)
- Proven experience managing preconstruction for diverse projects
- Experience dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors and/or self-perform work
- Experience leading successful teams and building external relationships
