Overview As Controller, you will lead the accounting function for a family-focused organization in Austin, directing close cycles, financial reporting, and compliance. You will bring construction-industry expertise to manage project costing, asset and debt accounting, and internal controls, delivering reliable insights to leadership. You will strengthen processes, mentor staff, and partner with operations to drive accurate, timely financials and governance. This role offers impact across reporting, compliance, and strategic decision support.
Responsibilities- Direct monthly and annual close and deliver consolidated financial results within deadlines
- Prepare financial statements and management reporting packages for executive decision-making
- Maintain ledger integrity through reconciliations, consolidation activity, and intercompany balancing
- Oversee construction revenue accounting, including percentage-of-completion, contract reporting, and profitability analysis by project
- Administer fixed asset, lease, and debt accounting, including depreciation, covenant tracking, and lender reporting
- Lead tax and regulatory compliance, including sales/use tax and franchise tax coordination
- Serve as primary contact for external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and surety partners; prepare audit schedules
- Supervise accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, collections, payroll review, and inventory-related accounting
- Develop accounting staff and reinforce internal controls; refine policies, procedures, and system usage for accuracy and efficiency
- Partner with operations and project leadership on job costing, financial analysis, and process improvements via advanced Excel modeling
