Overview In this role, you lead accounting operations, budgeting, and financial reporting for a public-sector organization in Memphis, guiding a multi-functional team to strengthen fiscal controls and deliver clear financial insight for executive decision-making. You will oversee regulatory compliance and internal controls while shaping long-term planning and funding strategy. The position combines government/utility finance expertise with hands-on leadership of a Finance team and cross-functional collaboration. You will drive process improvements and strategic financial system adoption to support the organization's mission.
Responsibilities- Direct day-to-day accounting, payroll, payment processing, and banking activities for a team of 11
- Oversee annual budget preparation, monitor performance, and adjust resources to align with priorities
- Manage month-end and year-end close ensuring timely, compliant financial statements
- Develop cash flow projections and assess funding needs for stability and long-term planning
- Ensure practices meet governmental accounting standards, regulatory obligations, and internal controls
- Provide leadership for utility-related financial operations (billing and revenue tracking) where applicable
- Set performance expectations and milestone plans for new and existing staff (30/60/90 days)
- Partner with executives to present financial analysis, identify risks, and support strategic decisions
- Contribute to process optimization and the adoption of financial systems/tools such as Taleo when relevant
