Senior R&D Engineer - Data Science

Overview

In this role you develop and validate advanced AI/ML solutions for medical devices, partnering with researchers and product teams to transform research into practical healthcare applications. You'll design models, build data pipelines, and evaluate performance to support cross-functional workflows in orthopedics, wound care, and sports medicine. You will mentor others and contribute to a collaborative AI Center of Excellence, shaping impactful medical technology.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and validate AI/ML solutions for healthcare and medical device applications
  • Design, train, tune, and evaluate ML/DL models using leading frameworks and tools
  • Research emerging AI techniques and assess their real-world healthcare relevance
  • Build and maintain data pipelines, scripts, and internal tools to support experimentation
  • Prepare and curate structured and unstructured datasets with effective feature engineering
  • Run experiments, analyze results, and validate model performance using statistical methods
  • Collaborate with AI researchers, R&D engineers, and product teams to integrate AI into solutions
  • Document approaches, findings, and model behavior to inform product development
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and support team success
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's/Doctoral preferred) in relevant fields
  • 3-6 years of experience applying ML in research, academia, or industry
  • Strong Python skills and experience with NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras
  • Experience building end-to-end ML workflows from data prep to prototyping
  • Solid understanding of statistical modeling, data analytics, and experimental design
  • Ability to communicate complex findings to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work independently on complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Ability to travel up to 5%
