Lead Engineer, Engineering Support Center (ESC)

Overview

In this role you will provide technical disposition for discrepancies beyond published limits and lead engineering activities within the Integrated Operations Division. You'll chair meetings, approve engineering documents, and mentor ESC engineers and co-ops. You will troubleshoot in-field aircraft issues, assess major damage, and develop temporary repairs to maintain fleet reliability. You'll issue engineering authorizations for urgent safety or compliance matters and ensure timely resolution of open issues. This position offers impact across operations and safety, with opportunities to shape repair strategies and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Host engineering meetings and delegate tasks as directed
  • Provide final approval for engineering documents as directed
  • Mentor ESC engineers and co-ops
  • Troubleshoot chronic in-field aircraft issues
  • Conduct major damage assessment and temporary repair development
  • Issue Engineering Authorizations for emergent safety/compliance issues
  • Maintain awareness of open engineering issues and ensure prompt resolution
  • Lead development and approval of repairs outside existing published limits
  • Provide engineering work scope for troubleshooting to determine root cause and corrective action
  • Create American Airlines Repair Document (AARD) for recurring discrepancies
  • Complete performance conversations for assigned engineers
  • Work night shift and be available for holidays/weekends
Key requirements
  • Bachelor in Engineering
  • 4 years engineering experience with aviation
  • Familiarity with CFRs, maintenance programs, EM, SRM, AMM, IPC, FIM, CMM, and WDM
  • Willingness to work the midnight shift
  • Ability to travel
